Visiting Key West

Here we are. The South of the south. We had 3 days off and decided to come to see what used to be the largest city in the south, also the wealthiest per capita for many years. We found a campground and are right next to the ocean. We are seeing things on the island and under the ocean. Lots of scooters here. Place where you can park your boat rent free, or pay $10.5 million to live on an island that used to be a fuel tank island for the navy. 2... 1 million gallon tanks on the island then was bought by a developer who built multimillion dollar homes. ouch......Then we went to see a museum that had artifacts and the story of Mel Fisher, who along with his family and salvage company found the Spanish treasure galleon La Nostra de la Atocha, the Atocha, in 1985. Full of silver, gold and emeralds. Amazing to a 12 foot gold link chain where each link was an ounce of gold and could be pulled off as cash when out shopping in 1711 Spain.
This is also called the Conche Republic. In 1982 the U.S. government closed the Keys and the mayor of Key West seceeded from the U.S., declared war, surrendered, and asked for international assistance. They chose the name Conche Republic, a Soverign State of Mind.
Well talk later.

Hello to all youse peoples out there.

WAAHOOO,
What a great time we have been having. First we found the largest sea turtle rescue on the east coast, and learned so much about turtles and their habitat, and we may even get to see a turtle lay its eggs. Then we met the Andersons in Orlando and then went to SEA WORLD! What a great time. We saw sea lions, sharks, beluga whales, Orcas,
penguins, walrus, dolphins, polar bears, C.O. and Melissa rode the Kraken, an awesome rollercoster that Melissa said at the end "Is that it?" Wow what a great time. We saw a great show that was similar to the Cirque de Solei. With acrobats, and wire works, just great. we will have some pictures to show.
take care and drop us a line. We miss all of our friends and love to hear from any and all.
